  1. AnneS –

I so enjoyed ‘To be a Soldier’, the first novel in J.M. Kearsley’s Peninsular War trilogy, that I obtained and read a copy of ‘Just Another Day’ as soon as I could.
The historical lynchpin of ‘Just Another Day’ is the siege and storming by the British and their allies of the French-held fortified city of Badajoz. As the main historical event of ‘To be a Soldier’ was the British and allied capture of the lesser stronghold of Ciudad Rodrigo, ‘Just Another Day’ could easily have been diminished owing to plot similarities with its predecessor. Kearsley, however, has deftly avoided this potential problem by making the main plot of ‘Just Another Day’ Will Tucker’s attempts to free his beloved Lady Megan Camberwell and her two teenage female companions from their French captors within Badajoz. Will’s endeavours in this regard are met with twists and reversals of fortune that never failed to hold my attention.
On all fronts, to use a military metaphor, I found ‘Just Another Day’ to be an engrossing read that met and often surpassed the strengths of ‘To be a Soldier’. I look forward to reading Will and Megan’s further adventures in the final book of Kearsley’s trilogy.
