Who is a book’s audience? #books

I’ve been watching with intrigue the increased use of TikTok, gifs and other moving images to promote book reading. Does it really work?
As an avid reader – and not just for the job – I struggle to see a book-reading audience being enticed to buy a book because of a TikTok or moving image encounter.
Posts that appeal most to me are static – not necessarily with an image. Fewer words with more space around them are likely to catch my eye and get me to read the post.
However, I cannot say I choose my next read because of a post. On the very few occasions I have, it has been because of a recommendation by someone I value as a discerning reader. More likely, I’ll select a novel based on something I’ve read about the book or been recommended.
What makes you stop and decide to buy a book?
