Short Story Preview: Gommorah (A Nursery Rhyme)
Everyone knew 69’s tag well and he hated it. The genetechs would snigger when they mentioned it and he was sure there was some strange connotation to it that came from the days of Gommorah, the time before.
The genetechs’ reaction had infected his fellow Digits and during Wisdom Quest they would titter whenever the Thought Herder mentioned his tag. They never really knew why they were laughing, it was just the done thing.
Why had he not been made one later or one earlier? 69 would think. He could, but for an accident of time, easily have been tagged 68 or 70. But he was stuck or ‘blessed’, as the Thought Herder had assured him, with his tag. There was no overhang from the time before; they were just being silly. The Thought Herder never laughed at anything.
