Romania
Romania has had a tough past – it’s leaders recognised for their excesses (shoes in 1989 vs 2015)
No doubt the most famous Romanian is Dracula who has been the feature of many books, not least the The Dracula Dilemma: Tourism, Identity and the State in Romania by Duncan Light and Dracula: Prince of Many Faces by Radu R. Florescu and Raymond T. McNally. If you haven’t yet read the book, Gutenberg Library have kindly provided an online version of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.
As a result, Myth and Mystery abound in Romania, but in Gabriela Harding’s Sai-ko we see a darker world.
On a lighter and less serious note, there’s Along the Enchanted Way by William Blacker
Some other books include:
Little Fingers by Filip Florian
The Passport by Nobel Prize-winner Herta Müller
Romania surprisingly features in A history of the Gatooma (Kodoma) Library 100 years by Peter Sternberg and Sheileigh Barton.
