Priests and Religious men
Priests and Religious men
Religion in the UK is apparently on the decline yet it features in a few novels – in fact a surprising number.
For example in novels authored by TSL writers, we have:
- Father Andrew, of the Church of England, in The Good Vicar
- Father Kaunas, a Greek priest, in The Duelling Worlds
- George Pym and Simon Guest, both Church of England, in Guys and Ghosts
- Amna Agib (bit Nafisa) looks at how religion influences culture in The Roots that gave birth to Magical Blossoms
Most well-known in British literature:
Father Brown by GK Chesterton
and the Irish-based sitcom Father Ted
The Thornbirds by Colleen McCullough
all of which feature Roman Catholic priests.
Some factual church histories include:
- The Northwood VAD Hospital
- An illustrated history of the Protestant Dissenting Church: Potterspury and Yardley Gobion, Northampton
- Somethings change and some stay the same: a hundred years of St John’s Uniting Presbyterian Church, Boksburg (on request)
And a musical – Faith is the Key by Barbara and John Towell (forthcoming)
