26 July

On this day…
2001 – Prime Minister Tony Blair addresses angry farmers in Cumbria about foot and mouth disease. Brian Cook writes about the impact of the disease in the Yorkshire Dales in his novel Home Ground
1945 – Clement Attlee becomes British Prime Minister – Francis Beckett has written a stage play about this ‘modest little man’.
1943 – Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones was born. I’m not sure he features in these books but popular music certainly does: The Grumpy Crumpet Club by John Samson, and Passing Passions Christopher Hammond
1745 the first recorded women’s cricket match was played in Surrey (Hambeldon vs Bramley) – The Moon is Toast is a collection of cricket happenings recorded by Andrew Samson in 2015. I’m not sure here either if this 1745 event is mentioned.
