Short Story Preview: Jeopardy in Josselin
We had escaped. For one whole week, free in glorious France, we could do as we pleased. For seven days I need not worry about my frail, elderly father-in-law, now safe at home with an imported carer. I prayed his incurable control streak could not reach us during my desperately needed break.
I looked at my little daughter’s excited face and then at the blue sky and sunshine outside. We were still in our beds.
‘So what’s it to be today, Becky, the beach, a museum, or a castle?’
This would be our first ever holiday together and I was as excited as a kid. Jack’s tragic and sudden death in a train crash five years ago had left us too low in funds for holidays and having his old father to live with us had created a restricting ménage à trio.
